About SBAOI

The Society for Biomaterials & Artificial Organs India (SBAOI) was formed in 1986 and registered under the Travancore-Cochin Act XII of 1955, (act for registration of literary, scientific and charitable societies) with the name Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs - India with the following objectives. This Society will not only cultivate an atmosphere nationwide for the growth of basic and technological oriented research in Biomaterials and Artificial Organs but also bring the professionals from various faculties together to improve the quality of their approach in future research. This is done by communication among all members, by developing a Society newsletter and also by arranging workshops with laboratory demonstrations, where learning and exchange of relevant concepts are stimulated every year. The Society is administered by its office bearers consisting of the President, two Vice presidents, the General Secretary and Treasurer elected from the executive committee constituted from the eligible members of the Society.

About STERMI

The Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine India (STERMI) was registered on April 25, 2007 as a charitable society under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955 with a basic objective to integrate tissue engineering and regenerative medicine to enhance the health care system and to bring the interdisciplinary scientists together for improving the related R&D in India. Dr. Chandra P Sharma attended the Executive Council meeting of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) at the Regenerate 2006, in the World Congress on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Pittsburg on April 26, 2006. Dr. Sharma was encouraged to initiate the Society in India. He communicated with many scientists and based on the favorable responses received, the Society for Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine (India) was constituted.

About IIT Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. The Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) was established in November 2002 to contribute the fascinating and emerging area of biological sciences. It has both undergraduate (B.Tech.) and postgraduate (M.Tech. and Ph.D.) academic programmes. The Department is unique in North-Eastern India, imparting quality education and providing an excellent research environment through its ongoing programmes. It imparts training for students to make them competent, motivated engineers and scientists. The department has 38 faculty members from diverse streams and specializations. The department has developed extensive research facility and infrastructure to support the ongoing teaching and research initiatives. The major thrust of the department includes biochemical engineering, Enzyme and Microbial Technology, tissue engineering, plant biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, computational biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases and proteomics. The department has initiated efforts to establish advanced research laboratories in all the thrust areas. Apart from fundamental research, the department aims to meet the targeted demands to cater the requirements of biotechnology-based industries. ​

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, being one of the largest and oldest departments of the institute, caters to its students with class tutorial and state-of-the-art laboratories. The department is continuously striving to achieve excellence in education, academic and industry-oriented research as well as consultancy work with service to the society.

We aim to provide our students with a perfect blend of intellectual and practical experiences, that helps them to serve our society and address a variety of needs. At the end of our program, students are prepared for entry-level work as a mechanical engineer as well as for the post-graduate study in mechanical engineering or in another discipline, where a fundamental engineering background constitutes a desirable foundation. Academic course work and projects are designed to endow students with the ability to apply knowledge of science, mathematics, and engineering, and the capability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, providing leadership and technical expertise. ​
