Tours and Trips
Several places of tourist interest in and around IIT Guwahati can be visited by the accompanying persons pre or post conference days. Apart from that, Assam being the gateway to the north east India serves as a paradise for trekkers and travellers alike. Nearby popular places like Shillong and Cherapunji, can be visited with 2-3 days trip. The national parks Kaziranga and Manas can be visited within 2 days trip. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, the dwelling place of Greater Indian One-Horned Rhinoceroses with its highest population in the whole world, can be visited in a one-day trip. There is a river cruise available via Alfresco Grand to explore Majuli island in the Brahmaputra River, the largest river island in the world. One can explore Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra which includes preserving, demonstrating and performing cultural items of North Eastern India. A nearby bird sanctuary is located at Dipor Bil, around 25 Kms from IIT Guwahati.
